About

I founded The Hull Therapist in 2019 and offer talking therapy from the sanctuary of my comfortable, peaceful and private therapy room in West Hull.

Becoming a Psychotherapist

Choosing to become a psychotherapist has been life changing for me, borne out of experiencing and working through my own personal and professional difficulties.

Prior to qualification I was a member of the emergency services for 30 years. Having experienced at first hand the corporate pressures, trauma and workplace stress that can manifest in this setting.

Separately, I have worked supporting adults following sexual assault and in voluntary settings working therapeutically with adults with complex and varied presentations from diverse backgrounds.

I have gained significant experience of working with NHS services, universities and other organisations.

Training to become a psychotherapist has been a long and challenging journey in which I too have been ‘the client’ so I know exactly how important it is to find the therapist you need.

I am passionate about building relationships and helping people in my local community. I am often described as ‘a safe pair of hands’ and this is the philosophy of my practice. I am a firm believer in embracing change and being alongside others to create a safe, authentic and trusted relationship encouraging innovation, empowerment and growth.

I am UKCP Registered and an Associate Trainer at Ellesmere Counselling & Psychotherapy Training, Hull.

Taking care of self holistically is an essential part of my practice along with establishing a unique connection in a person to person setting, prioritising safety and well-being.

My Qualifications & Training

I qualified in 2019 and I am a Registered Member of the UK Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am passionate about my personal development and continue to learn and train in psychotherapy.  I also enjoy supporting and training students to become psychotherapeutic counsellors and psychotherapists.

I take my profession very seriously and aim to be the best practitioner I can be to help others. I regularly attend Continuing Professional Development opportunities for my own interest, learning and to support my ethical practice.

I have enjoyed additional training in the last 12 months focussed on Trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder and Personality Disorders.
